Adopt A Senior - Sammy

Adopt A Senior - Sammy
Sammy is now 9 years old and is a good, but very shy, one-person dog. She would be excellent for a single-person household. A patient individual with a lot of doggy-know-how would be the ideal match. Sammy needs a secure, fenced yard. She tends to be dominant with other dogs, but can get along with them. Sammy came to our shelter from a rescue in Dulce.

ADOPT A SENIOR - Indy

ADOPT A SENIOR - Indy
Indy is an attractive Shepherd/ Border Collie mix. He is approx. 10 yrs old and around 55 lbs. He is the brother to Coby. Indy loves to play with other dogs, but seems to prefer the lady-dogs. He is shy and skittish and will need a home with consistency, love and plenty of one-on-one handling. Placed with a person who has dog-savvy, he will do well. He has been fostered and thrives in a home environment. Schedule to visit him and bring your dog for him to meet!

Oliver/Odie

Oliver/Odie
One very appealing boy, Oliver is extremely social, excellent with people and good with most other dogs. He is about 1 1/2 years old and came from a Missouri high-kill shelter, having been found as a stray puppy trying to eke out a living for himself. While he is largely house-trained, he will still need supervision. Oliver also benefits from the presence of another well-trained dog within the household whose cues he can follow. One concern is that Oliver has developed a liking for cords/hoses, and training is in place to discourage this fetish. Site-specific training as well as supervision will need to occur after he has found his perfect home.

Nini

Nini
This precious little one is a happy, personable, enthusiastic being, despite her difficulties up to now. Nini (formerly labeled Theresa) is truly ready for some sweetness in life, having been seized from a hoarding situation along with several others who found their way to Annie's Orphans. Like the other dogs, she was malnourished and so matted that her coat had to be shaved down. She was also treated for bilateral ear infection. It's believed that Nini was kept crated for much of her life which, with poor nutritional status, contributed to little muscle mass. Upon arrival, she used her rear, right leg very little and seemed unable to support much weight on it. The professional belief was that she had patellar subluxation. However, with a few weeks of good nutrition and increased ability to exercise, she has made a remarkable turnaround. She is now exhibiting boundless energy and is using all fours smoothly with very little favoring noticed, and that being sporadic. We are looking for the perfect lifetime companion(s) for Nini. She is attentive and loves people and enjoys being given love and attention. She also likes dogs, but is a dominant girl with a high play need and is food-protective with other dogs (probably a result of having to vie for meals). A home without small children is being sought, since Nini weighs less than 7 pounds and has a delicate frame. She is believed to be 1 1/2 years old.

Ariel

Ariel
Sweet little Ariel was sent our way, a very pregnant girl whose time was up for finding a home at another shelter. She was picked up running loose and was, unfortunately, impregnated during her first heat cycle. She had her "one-time" healthy litter of seven shortly after arriving and performed her role as a mother extremely well, especially considering that, at the time, she was still under a year old herself. She is a very people-focused lady, good with dogs, very attentive, affectionate and eager to learn. Ariel's ideal home will include another medium-energy canine friend and a family that will provide moderate activity, since an early-life injury to one of her feet causes some slight compromise. This 2 year old is ready to start a new life of her own -- filled with comforts, ample vittles and LOTS of affection!

Adopt a Senior - Carmen

Adopt a Senior - Carmen
Carmen has been receiving increased training, and this focus - along with extra exercise and socialization - has helped her with her extreme shyness. She has experience living in a household, and the ideal placement for her will be with a single, quiet individual. She was probably house-trained, but will need a tune-up in that area after placement. She will require lots of patience and love, as well as continued effort toward training and socialization. Carmen is 8 years old.

Adopt a Senior - Salty Dog and Pepper

Adopt a Senior - Salty Dog and Pepper
This "Chug" (Chihuahua/Pug) is probably around 11 years old and came to us as an out-of-state transfer with his buddy, Pepper (with whom he needs to find placement, since they are inseparable). He is a very cute boy, but gives every indication that he is completely deaf. Salty is a bit shy in personality; therefore, quite dependent on Pepper. He is patiently waiting for his person to call for him and his buddy!

ADOPT A SENIOR - Traveler

ADOPT A SENIOR - Traveler
Traveler has been waiting for "a person of his own" for a very long time. He has lived his entire life at Annie's Orphans, having been found as a stray with his mother when he was about 5 weeks old. They were both starving and close to freezing on the 5 degree morning of their rescue. As a quiet boy, he has been repeatedly overlooked. Traveler is a shy fellow and takes time to warm up, but is able to bond. He is good with most dogs. His preferred placement is a calm, quiet environment with no children. Traveler is on the small side of medium and is 10 years old. UPDATE: Traveler has developed swelling/arthritis in a front foot. He also had a tumor removed from his tongue. His paradoxical reaction to the surgery has been amazing, in that he is acting like a kid again -- animated, full of energy! Give this "seasoned" boy a chance for a great home!
